National Service Secretariat organizes orientation for 2010/11 final year students of UMaT
The Western Regional Director of National Service Scheme (NSS), Mr Michael Tottime has said national service is a transitional period from school to the field of work aimed at preparing students for the future.
He said it was also a period to build the spirit of patriotism for students to contribute effectively and efficiently to national development.
The Regional Director said this at a day’s orientation for final year students of the University of Mines and Technology at Tarkwa in the Western Region
According to the Regional Director, this year’s posting of service personnel would focus on agriculture, disaster management, health, rural development and education and entreated the students to avail themselves of the opportunity to serve the nation.
Mr Ebenezer Asante, the Sskondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly Director of the NSS, took students through the rules and regulation governing the service. He cautioned students whose intension was to abandon the programme that they will be prosecuted when caught.
Mr Theophilus Coffie, the Regional Administrator of NSS also took students through the online registration procedure and advised them to avoid choosing the same region twice. Other officers who accompanied the regional director of the NSS were Miss Paulina Arthur, NSS Director, PHDA, Mr S. G. Ofori, NSS Director, TNMA and Mr Stephen Nana Badu, NSS Director, Daboase District Assembly.
Also present at the function were Mr Michael Affam, a lecturer, who acted as the chairman, Mr Francis Nyarko (Assistant Registrar) and Mr Isaac Addei (Snr Hall Tutor) Gold Refinery Hall. Students asked questions after the presentation ranging from allowances, motivation and accommodation.
