The Department currently runs a 4-year programme leading to the Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. This programme entails courses in the areas of Electrical and Electronic Theory, Electrical Power, Communications Systems, Electrical Machines, Control Theory, Instrumentation and Control, Business Entrepreneurship, Industrial and Maintenance Engineering, etc.

Furthermore, the programme calls for at least two industrial field trips, two student industrial attachments and a final year supervised project work.
This programme is aimed at achieving the training of competent first degree graduates such that they take up jobs in the electrical, electronic and allied industries.It is also to prepare first degree graduates for higher degrees in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and related programmes.

Staff of the Department holds a minimum of MSc/MPhil degree qualification; and have excellent course delivery skills, rich industrial experience and are noted for easily integrating practical applications with theory. Expertise and experiences of the Department’s academic staff are in the areas of Power Systems, Control Engineering, Communications Engineering, Industrial and Power Electronics, Electrical Mine Machinery and Winders, Electrical Drives and Automation of Industrial Installations.

Staff of the Department is actively involved in research and consultancy services.
Accreditation exercise for Polytechnics programmes in Electrical and Electronic Engineering is also undertaken by some members of the Department.
