History

The University Library’s history is tied to the history of the university. It started as the Tarkwa Technical Institute Library in 1952. In 1961, it became Tarkwa School of Mines Library. The school was affiliated to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) as a faculty of the university in 1976.
In 2001, the library became Western University College Library of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. In November 2004, it became the main library of the University of Mines and Technology. The library moved to its current location in August 18th 2005.

Mission Statement

  • To provide higher education with special reference to mining and related fields.
  • To promote knowledge through research and
  • To promote professional services to the National and International Communities.

One of the units to help the University achieve its objectives is the University Library Unit. The Library’s mission, therefore, is to support the academic activities of the university, namely, teaching, learning and research.
