User Services

One of the main functions of a library is exploiting its collections by its users to satisfy their information needs. This is through reference and retrieval and circulations of the materials in the collection and lending.

Reference Collection

The Reference Collection holds major reference works (encyclopaedias, dictionaries, directories) in all disciplines, Government Publications, and key statistical material. This area also holds reserve collection, students project work, and Masters Dissertations , including exam papers. Material in this area is for use within the Library only.  This is a valuable collection for your essays and projects. Staff at the Information Desk is available to help you use this collection effectively.

Information Desk

Staff are available at the Information Desk to answer all your questions and help you locate items on your reading list, search the library catalogue and find the best resources, print and web-based, for your essays and projects.

Main Lending Collection

The Library's Main Lending Collection holds the greater part of the library's lending stock. On the first floor   you will find books relating to business, humanities, science and technology. Most of the books here may be borrowed for two weeks. The collection is classified and shelved according to the Library of Congress Classification System.

Periodicals Collection

The Periodicals is located on the ground floor of the library. The most recent issues of all journals are housed in a shelve.

Electronic Journals Collections

The Library has access to thousands of full contents periodicals, table of contents and abstracts of thousands more periodicals through the Internet. All the online periodicals are available through the Electronic Resources link.

Study Spaces

There are over 50 study spaces throughout the library, including PC and laptop workstations, which offer you a comfortable and varied environment in which to work either by yourself or with others. For individual study, you can choose to work at a table. All study areas on the ground floor first and second floor are designated for quiet individual study.

Collaborative Study Rooms

There is one Collaborative Study Room available for use located on the first floor. The room is intended for students working in groups on projects.

The Library Catalogue

The Library Catalogue is an online catalogue of all print material held in the library. It includes books, periodical titles, reports, theses and DVDs.  For fast searching, dedicated Library Catalogue PC is located on the ground floor.
