Promotion of Senior Lecturers Dr. R. K. AMANKWAH and Dr. R. S. SUGLO to the rank of Associate Professor
At the University of Mines and Technology's 19th Meeting held on the 18th of July, 2008 Council approved the recommendation of the University Appointments and Promotions Committee and promoted Dr. Richard K. Amankwah and Dr. Raymond S. Suglo from Senior Lecturer to the rank of Associate Professor. Both promotions take effect from 1st October, 2006.
Richard K Amankwah was educated at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana, Technical University of Clausthal, Germany and Queen’s University, Canada where he obtained his PhD in 2005. Richard has ample experience in mineral processing and extractive metallurgy, acquired through both academic research and industrial consulting activities. His current research areas include biohydrometallurgy, environmental biotechnology, microwaves in extractive metallurgy, gold beneficiation and small-scale mining. He is a member of the American institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers, Inc. (SME).
Raymond Suglo is a holder of PhD and MSc degrees in Mining Engineering (University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada), Postgraduate Diploma and Bachelor of Science (Honors) degrees in Mining Engineering (University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana). Raymond Suglo has over twenty years of professional experience in teaching, research and underground mining operations. He worked as a production Engineer at Tarkwa Goldfields Limited from March 1983 to April 1989. His research areas are Mine Ventilation and Safety Engineering, Simulation of Mining Systems, Surface and Underground Mine Planning and Design, Mining and Environmental Laws. He is a Member of the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers, Inc. (SME) and the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM).
We anticipate that the two new associate professors will bring their experience to bear on the management of the University.
