This plan led to the release of a grant worth $7.0 million by the USAID for development of Centers of Excellence in Environmental Engineering in three sister educational institutions in West Africa. These institutions are University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa Ghana, University of Benin, Benin, Nigeria and International Institute for Environment and Water Resources, Ouagadougou, Burkina-Faso (2ie). The initial trench of $1.1million has been released to 2ie.
