Prof. Richard Kwasi Amankwah (Dean, FIMS)

The Faculty of Integrated Management Science came into operations at the beginning of the 2017/2018 Academic Year. The Faculty consists of two academic departments, namely: Department of Technical Communication and Department of Management Studies.

The Department of Technical Communication (DTC)
The Department of Technical Communication (DTC) was born out of the erstwhile Centre for Communication and Entrepreneurship Skills (CENCES), which was established in 2011 to become the nucleus of the third faculty of the University and has now matured into the Faculty of Integrated Management Science (FIMS). Before CENCES, the Department had evolved over the years from the English Section of the Department of Mining Engineering to the Languages (English and French) Section of the same Mother Department. With its new status, the DTC is now one of the two academic departments under FIMS. The Department, like its predecessor CENCES, currently operates as a servicing department but has far- advanced plans to start its own post-graduate programme, namely the Master of Science in Technical Communication. The Department also runs the One-Year Certificate programme in English for non-English speaking international applicants, which started in the 2012/2013 Academic Year. The DTC has plans to run a Certificate programme in French Proficiency and also upgrade the existing Basic French Courses to fit the A1 Certificate of the Alliance Française to help make our students more competitive. Additionally, the Department plans to run two certificate programmes in Technical Writing and Professional Communication as well as short courses in English and French to benefit the local community.

Apart from teaching, staff were actively engaged in research, consultancy and extension services during the year under review.

The Department of Management Studies (DMS)
The Department offers two Postgraduate Masters’ Programmes: Master of Business and Technology Management (MBTM) and MSc Engineering Management. The Department also runs a one-year certificate programme in Small Scale Mine and Quarry Administration. These Programmes are all run on weekends (Saturdays and Sundays). The Department, apart from teaching, is actively involved in research, consultancy and extension services.
