The Vice Chancellor of University of Ngaoundere, Cameroon, Prof Uphie Chinje Melo in the company of Prof Theresia Nkuo-Akenji, Vice Chancellor of University of Bamenda has paid a working visit to UMaT. According to Prof Uphie Chinje Melo, the purpose of the visit was to follow up on an MoU that the two institutions signed in 2018 and to find out how staff of University of Ngaoundere could come over to UMaT to understudy the environment to enable student and staff exchange to start. She expressed profound gratitude to the Vice Chancellor, Prof J. S. Y. Kuma for welcoming them to UMaT. She indicated that she was very impressed with the state of affairs in UMaT and expressed the hope that the relationship they were seeking especially in the area of mining would yield positive mutual benefits to both institutions.

After giving a brief history on UMaT to them, Prof Kuma expressed the gratitude of the University to them for their determination to visit UMaT and thanked them for their perseverance to come and see what UMaT was doing. He emphasised that UMaT had a competitive urge over other Universities in Ghana because, according to him, in UMaT there is a focus on the students in terms of the training they are given. At the end of the discussions the meeting agreed on the common grounds which are featured in the Memorandum of Understanding that was signed and would be subject to the availability of funds.

The areas of cooperation shall include the exchange of faculty staff for short,medium, or long-term periods, which will enhance and guarantee furtherscientific and scholarly cooperation in teaching and research. It also includes facilitation of access to funds from international organisations and foundations for collaborative research activities and provision of equipment to enhance teaching, research and development, the exchange of graduate students and junior faculty members on PhD programmes participating in joint projects agreed upon by both parties, Development of curricula and organisation of joint conferences, seminars, symposia, special short-term academic programmes and the exchange of publications for scientific, scholarly, teaching and information purposes, in order to strengthen existing friendly relationships between the two universities.

Also present at the meeting were Assoc Prof V. A. Temeng, Pro Vice Chancellor of UMaT, Mr A. K. Doku, the Registrar of UMaT and Mr Paul Yeboah, the University Relations Officer.
