The University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) has donated items to the international students of the university who are living on campus during the Covid-19 pandemic at a short ceremony held at the KT Hall Conference Room. The items included 5 boxes of indomie noodles, 38 pieces of frytol oil, 38 pieces of tin milo, 8 packs of ideal milk, 400 pieces of 3-in-1 sachets of nescafe, 40 pieces of hand sanitizers, 40 pieces of liquid soap, 4 packs of jumbo towels, 8 bags of rice, 12 cartons of tin fish, 5 boxes of tin tomatoes, among others amounting to GH¢10,000.

The Vice Chancellor together with the Dean of Students also made personal donations of 190 pieces of sachet water and 40 pieces of nose masks to the International Students.

Making the presentation, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof J. S. Y. Kuma said that when the University closed down following the directives by His Excellency the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the subsequent closure of the borders in March this year, the international students could not go back to their various countries. He said Management of the University therefore found it necessary to donate some food and other items to them to support them as they continue to stay on campus during this period because they recognised the enormous difficulties faced by the international students.

Prof Kuma indicated that the donation formed part of efforts by Management to protect the students by limiting their movements in search of food and other essential items for their survival in these times of the COVID-19 pandemic. He urged them to continue to practice the safety protocols put in place in order to stay safe. The SRC President 2nd Right with some of the Executives of ISA

Responding to the gesture, the Vice President of the International Students Association of UMaT, Mr Tano Oliver Desire expressed his gratitude on behalf of his colleagues for the immeasurable support they had received from the University’s Management, the Dean of Students and hostel Supervisors of the University since the outbreak of the pandemic and as a result, they were all glad and feel at home away from home.
