The University of Mines and Technology has donated some Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to Tarkwa Senior High School and Fiaseman Senior High School in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality.

Making the presentation to the Heads of the two Schools, the Vice Chancellor of UMaT, Prof J. S. Y. Kuma explained that the gesture formed part of the vision of the University to impact her community. He indicated that Tarkwa Senior High School has been consistent with supplying a good number of the fresh students toUMaT every year and that the Unversity was very appreciative. He indicated that it was important to be each other’s keeper at this critical period of the COVID-19 pandemic. He was hopeful that the support to the Schools will help protect both teachers and students from COVID-19.

Prof Kuma further advised teachers and students of the Schools to obey all the safety protocols such as practicing social distancing, wearing their face masks or shields, washing their hands with soap under running water and using hand sanitizer to prevent the novel coronavirus so that they can stay safe and complete their studies. 

Each school received 6 infrared thermometer guns, 60 face shields, 6 veronica buckets and stands, 6 waste bins, two gallon of hand sanitizer and 6 receptacles.

At Tarkwa Senior High School, the items were received in the presence of the Honourable Member of Parliament for the Tarkwa Nsuaem Constituency, Hon George Mireku Duker and the Municipal Chief Executive of the Municipality, Mr Benjamin Kessie. Hon Mireku Duker expressed his appreciation to the University for the donation. He praised the University for the efforts made to support the Schools during this challenging period. The Headmistress of Tarkwa SHS, Madam Paulina Akosua Manu thanked the Vice Chancellor for the kind gesture to help in the fight against the COVID19 pandemic.

Receiving the items at Fiaseman Senior High School, the Headmaster, Mr John Kofi Saighoe also expressed his gratitude and that of the School Management to UMaT for coming to support them in these difficult times. He indicated that the items will go a long way to help them protect themselves from the coronavirus.

Present at the presentation ceremony were the Pro Vice Chancellor of UMaT, Assoc Prof V. A. Temeng; the Registrar of UMaT, Mr M. K. Okrah; the Head of Human Resource Unit of UMaT, Mr Francis Nyarko; the Senior Health Superintendent, Mr Bismarck Yeboah and the University Relations Officer, Mr Paul Yeboah.
