President Akufo Addo Cutting the tape to Commission the New 5 Storey Administration Block
His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has commissioned two completed buildings at the University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa. The buildings are the 5-Storey Administration Block funded by the Minerals Development Fund (MDF) and the School of Petroleum Studies Block funded by the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof R. K. Amankwah, in his address during the commissioning of the 5-Storey Administration Block thanked the President for fulfilling the promise he made during the investiture of the Chancellor of the University, H. E. Former President John Agyekum Kufuor, in January 2018 to complete the MDF Legacy Projects before the end of his 1st term as President of the Republic. Prof R. K. Amankwah thanked the MDF Board led by Madam Esther Happy Edjeani for the tremendous support and funding the University received. He also acknowledged the role of his predecessors Prof D. Mireku-Gyimah and Prof J. S. Y. Kuma whose vision and commitment led to the construction and completion of the edifice.

The construction of the 5-storey Administration Block commenced on 9th November, 2010 and consists of 69 rooms and offices, a 180-Capacity Conference Room and ancillary facilities. The total cost of the project is GH¢18,719,424.78.
During the commissioning of the GNPC funded School of Petroleum Studies Block, Dr Kwame Baah-Nuakoh, General Manager-Sustainability of GNPC who represented the Chief Executive, Dr K. K. Sarpong, reiterated the commitment of GNPC to promote the local content policy of Ghana’s petroleum sector and also maximise value retention for the benefit of the nation. The construction of the GNPC School of Petroleum Studies Block commenced on 16th May, 2017. The Block consists of lecture halls, laboratories and offices. The total cost of the project is GH¢9,753,999.12.

Also present at the ceremony were Dr Norris Hammah, MDF Administrator, Nana Dr Adarkwa Bediako III, Gyasehene of Apinto Traditional Council, the Chairman of the UMaT Council and some members of Convocation.
