Assoc Prof Grace Ofori Sarpong

The Chairman of Council upon recommendation by Management of the University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa, and in accordance with Statute 8f of the University Statutes, has appointed Associate Professor Grace Ofori-Sarpong as the Acting Pro Vice Chancellor of the University effective 1st January, 2021. This became necessary as the term of office of the former Pro Vice Chancellor, Associate Professor Victor Amoako Temeng, ended on 31st December, 2020. Assoc Professor Grace Ofori-Sarpong, who is currently the Professorial Member on the University Council, serves as the Acting Pro Vice Chancellor until a substantive Pro Vice Chancellor is appointed by the University Council.

Assoc Prof Grace Ofori-Sarpong is currently the Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies. She previously served as Dean of the Faculty of Mineral Resources Technology, Vice Dean of Planning and Quality Assurance Unit, Head of the Departments of Petroleum and Environmental and Safety Engineering, as well as the University Examinations Coordinator. She has also served as a Chairperson/Member of several boards/committees in the University, and as a Member of many National and International boards/bodies/committees. She therefore assumes the position of Acting Pro Vice Chancellor with a wealth of experience.

Assoc Prof Grace Ofori-Sarpong is the Sub-Saharan African winner for the 2017 Elsevier Foundation Award for Early Career Women Scientists in the Developing World. She holds a PhD in Energy and Mineral Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University, USA, MSc in Environmental Resources Management and BSc in Metallurgical Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana. She is a Fellow/Member of several professional bodies including the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences, West African Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum, Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration Engineers, Society of Petroleum Engineers, Women in Mining, Ghana, and the Founder and President of Ladies in Mining and Allied Professions in Ghana.
