Dear UMaT students,

On behalf of the management of the University, I would like to welcome you all back to campus. I am happy to see that you have resumed academic work and moving on steadily on campus. To the fresh students, you are warmly welcome as you embark on a new journey of life at UMaT. In UMaT we pride ourselves in the fact that our products are unique and I trust that you will become part of this special group of people who pick superior skills on campus and graduate to influence society in many positive ways. I wish you a happy stay.

Over the past months, national leaders and university management have been planning for your return to campus. We also constructively discussed how to run a smooth academic year using a combination of virtual and face-to-face interactions to deliver lectures, tutorials and laboratory activities. All these have become necessary due to a deep concern for the health and safety of students, staff and by extension all residents of Tarkwa. COVID-19 has taken the world by storm and most of our communities have recorded some positive cases.

Though a mining town, with many people passing through on a daily basis, Tarkwa has managed to keep the virus in check. This has been made possible through the efforts of many, including medical and public health officers, the COVID-19 Committees and Taskforces, and the Police among others. UMaT needs your assistance to keep COVID-19 under control as an outbreak within our students groups could have tragic consequences.

We all have a part to play in this exercise. On campus, members of the COVID-19 Taskforce and the Security Unit will check your temperature at several entry points, enforce wearing of masks, and ensure that students do not assemble in ways that have the potential to spread the disease. You will also be required to wash your hands or sanitise before entering lecture halls and any other buildings on campus. Beyond campus, the Police have orders to do same, and we stand by them in their efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

There is information available on our website and in circulation on the adherence to safety protocols in both the halls of residence and private hostels. Please update and familiarize yourself with these expectations.
Despite the pandemic, this academic year should be a progressive one for all of us, especially you. UMaT and the society count on your support to ensure the safety of everyone during this challenging period. May the grace and blessings of the good Lord augment our efforts. Please stay safe.
