Officials from UMaT interacting with some Tutors of the Newmont Programmes
The University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Newmont Ghana to collaborate on Verification and Certification of the Company’s Mechanical, Minerals and Electrical Apprenticeship Programmes. These programmes are run for the youth in the catchment communities where the Mine operates and it aligns with the Company’s localization policy.
The apprentices and tradesmen will be awarded diploma and proficiency certificates respectively. The diploma certificate will offer an opportunity for trainees to further their studies at the Tertiary level.
UMaT has conducted the first verification and certification exercise for the Company. The University is further engaged in the organisation of Training of Trainers (ToT) for the Tutors and Supervisors of the programmes.
Areas of the ToT are Teaching Methodology, Setting Examination Questions and Marking Schemes, Mentorship Training, Trainer and Assessor Refresher Training and Classroom Management
This initiative is the first of its kind at the Mine and plans are underway for more collaborations between UMaT and the Company.
