Micro Aerial Projects LLC, a Florida based registered company on Wednesday, 16th June, 2021 donated 2 UAV Drones to the University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa to support capacity building of both faculty and students of the University. Mr Walter Volkmann, the President of Micro Aerial Projects LLC made the donation on behalf of the Company.

Mr Walter Volkmann stated in his remarks that Micro Aerial Projects LLC is inspired by efforts in Africa, particularly Ghana, aimed at improving the livelihoods and living standards of the citizenry. He further stated that his Company is encouraged by the enthusiasm of the University to build a forest close to the University Campus and that the Drones will be very useful for aerial mapping and also support capacity building of faculty and students.

Mr Walter also entreated the University to use the equipment in the interest of the public by furthering the knowledge and insights on the use of Unmanned Aerial Systems for cadastral and general surveying and mapping. He added that all revenue generated through the use of the equipment should be for the direct account of the university. He then requested UMaT to share findings and insights that will be gained and in the use of the equipment with all relevant parties and also collaborate and participate in research related to the improvement of geospatial production in the public interest of Ghana.

Prof Richard Kwasi Amankwah, Vice Chancellor of the University received the equipment on behalf of the University and thanked Micro Aerial Projects LLC for the gesture. Prof Amankwah also stated that the donation fulfils Sustainable Development Goal 17 as Micro Aerial Projects LLC partners with UMaT. He assured the Micro Aerial Projects LLC President that the equipment will be used for its intended purpose.

The University later signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Micro Aerial Projects LLC as a measure to enhance the partnership between the two parties.
