The University of Mines and Technology on Saturday, 28th August, 2021 held her 17th Matriculation for 148 students of the School of Postgraduate Studies (SPS), to formally welcome them into the University for the 2021/2022 academic year. The ceremony was held using the virtual platform.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof Richard Kwasi Amankwah in his address welcomed and congratulated the students and stated that UMaT prides itself in the uniqueness of its products. He therefore entreated the students to become part of the University’s unique family whose efforts can lead to a paradigm shift, and influence society in many positive ways.

Prof Richard Kwasi Amankwah emphasized that postgraduate studies is about knowledge creation and problem solving and therefore postgraduate students need to chart a path which seeks to achieve such objectives.

Prof Amankwah stated that the University adopted the virtual learning system for about 70% of teaching and learning engagements as a result of the Corona Virus pandamic. This, he said, has helped to create a conducive learning environment as it offers students some protection from contracting the virus while on campus and a relaxed learning environment. He however, noted that virtual learning has its challenges and requires that students make conscious efforts to move along at the same pace with their Lecturers.

The Vice Chancellor assured the matriculants that as a recognised institution of higher learning with specialisation in mining, petroleum, allied engineering and management science education, UMaT will continue to challenge students to discover their potentials and achieve their highest levels of intellectual capabilities and personal growth to meet industrial and professional needs of the country.

The Matriculation oath was administered by Mr M. K. Okrah, Registrar of the University.
