UMaT Alumnus appointed a member of the Advisory Board on Mineral and Energy Royalty Policy Committee by the United States Secretary of Interior

A UMaT Alumnus based in the USA, Professor Kwame Awuah-Offei has been appointed as part of a 38-member Advisory Board on Mineral and Energy Royalty Policy Committee by United States Secretary of Interior. Professor Awuah-Offei who is one of the alternates for the Academic and Public Interest Groups is the only African to have been appointed to the board.
 
Professor Awuah-Offei received his BSc in Mining Engineering from the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) with First Class Honours in 2001. He holds a PhD from the University of Missouri-Rolla (UMR). Part of his PhD work was done at the University of Alberta, Canada. He is currently an Associate Professor in Mining Engineering at Missouri University of Science and Technology.  He has 12 years of research, teaching, and consulting experience. Professor Awuah-Offei has extensive experience in modeling and optimisation of mining systems for sustainability. His current research interests include modeling and optimisation of mining systems, design and management of sustainable mining systems, mining equipment performance evaluation, and earthmoving equipment-formation interactions.
 
He attended St. John’s Secondary School, Sekondi, and St. Augustine’s College, Cape Coast, where he studied for his General Certificate of Education Ordinary and Advanced Levels, respectively. 
 
Professor Awuah-Offei is an expert advisor to a team of Ghanaian mining professionals across the world. He is also a Visiting Professor at the Department of Mining Engineering of UMaT.
