UMaT has hosted fifteen undergraduate students from the University of Electronic Science and Technology, (UESTC), Chengdu, China, on an Academic Exchange programme. This is in fulfillment of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) UMaT signed with UESTC in December 2015. The exchange programme which lasted for two weeks afforded the Chinese students the opportunity to attend lectures and also to have a feel of the way practical laboratory work was done in UMaT.

The UMaT students worked closely with the Chinese students to ensure that they familiarised themselves with the local environment, made friends and created lasting connections on campus. The students visited places of interest both on campus and in the Tarkwa township.

A night of cultural exchange was also held between them and UMaT students where the UESTC students showcased various aspects of Chinese culture, including food, language, music, festivals and social life. On their part, the UMaT students also treated the visitors to the rich Ghanaian cultural performances including music and dance from the various ethnic groups on campus.
