Prof Kuma Delivering His New Years Message

The University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Tarkwa has organised the 2nd end of year service for 2017 for all staff of the University. The purpose of which was to assemble together as one family to thank God for steering the affairs of all staff and the University in general throughout the year and to rekindle the spirit of togetherness amongst the staff.

The Acting Chaplain, Dr Bernard Kumi-Boateng preached the sermon on the theme “Unity in Mind and Purpose”. He emphasised the importance of working together as a united force for the common good and implored everyone to help in moving the University forward to achieve more greatness. According to him without mutual respect for each other, the common goal of advancing the course of the University would be difficult to achieve. He called on all members of staff to eschew laziness and backbiting and focus on the things that would bring unity of mind and purpose with the help of God. He called on Deans, Heads of Departments, Units and Sections to stop sowing seeds of discord and encouraged them to work together with their subordinates in unity for the development of the University.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof J. S. Y. Kuma, in his end of year message thanked all members of staff for their efforts in helping management to advance the course of the University. He acknowledged the fact that the efforts of members of staff continue to improve year in year out and encouraged them to keep it up. He emphasised that in spite of some challenges, with the collective efforts of all, the University chalked some successes in the past year. He called on all to continue to have confidence and belief in the University in the years ahead. He also called on everyone to be serious with their work and eschew laziness and encouraged those who were not pulling their weight to change their old ways to a new leaf in the coming year.

Prof Kuma also emphasised on the importance of taking good care of their health. He encouraged them to regularly visit the Clinic or Hospital for screening and check-ups to enable them know the state of their health and to take the necessary steps to manage the conditions that they may be diagnosed.  He informed them to take advantage of the Annual Medical Screening organised by the University Clinic in February and March to know their health status.

Prof Kuma announced that the Government had given clearance for the University to recruit 78 new staff and this he said will help lessen the burden of some Units who were distressed. He indicated that Management would do everything possible to fairly distribute the number among all departments, sections and units.
He congratulated all staff and students who had won awards and made the University proud to continue to work harder in the coming year. He also praised all staff members who were putting in extra efforts to get things done to keep it up.
