The Office of the Dean of Students serves a central role in student learning and development at UMaT. The role of the Dean of Students is to represent student concerns and provide programs and services that facilitate both student personal and academic growth. The Office of the Dean of Students creates opportunities to involve students and staff in seamless learning environment and provides a critical support structure for enriching the overall student experience.
These ends are achieved through collaborative efforts with student organs, Departments and Units within the University. The Office promotes an environment that encourages intellectual exchange and individual expression through orientation, mentoring and counseling programmes.
In effect, the Dean of Students performs the following:
The Dean of Students also serves on other committee such as the Residence, Health Services and Security Committees among others that have that been established for the well-being of all students.
The Office of the Dean of Students comprises the Dean, Senior Hall Tutors, a Bursar and an Administrative Assistant, the Secretary. Currently, the Staff comprises the following:

As students, we are expected to conduct ourself, both on and off the campus, in a manner which demonstrates respect for the University, its staff, fellow students and for other members of the local community in general. The University places great emphasis on the good behaviour of its students and has a formal procedure for dealing with serious cases of misconduct.
For this purpose the University has developed some rules regulating the conduct of students.
The Code of Student Conduct sets out expectations for student behaviour and the procedures the University uses to resolve matters when students' behaviour is unacceptable. All University regulations, codes and policies are covered by the Code of Student Conduct. The Code of Conduct shall apply to conduct that occurs on University premises, at University sponsored activities, and to off-campus conduct that affects a Substantial University Interest.
The following provides a substantive but not exhaustive list of activities which the University regards as constituting misconduct:
In the University environment such as ours, students benefit from a variety of programmes and services that go a long way to augment what goes on in the classroom and in producing a ‘wholly educated individuals’. An aspect of these student personnel services at the University is Guidance and Counselling.
Again, the entire University staff have personal, family and occupational problems and challenges that, if not well managed, can affect productive work and performance in general. Thus, the Guidance and Counselling Unit of the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) was established in the year 2012 with the aim of assisting students and staff to address personal or emotional challenges that may affect them.
