A Group Picture of the GNPC and UMaT Teams
The General Manager for Sustainability of GNPC, Dr Kwame Amoah Baah-Nuakoh, has paid a working visit to UMaT to inspect ongoing projects which GNPC is supporting in the University. The projects include a two storey School of Petroleum Studies building and the progress of work of the Professorial Chair in Mining Engineering. Dr Baah-Nuakoh also took the opportunity to introduce two Officers of the Foundation to UMaT. They are Ms Patience Lucinda Azuntaba, Senior Officer, Sustainability and the Co-ordinator of Professorial Chairs and Mr Joseph Boateng, Officer, Sustainability and Member of the Social Performance Team of the Professorial Chairs. Dr Baah-Nuakoh further indicated that the two Officers would be the liaisons between the Foundation and UMaT going forward. He also informed the Vice Chancellor that UMaT was the first to receive the money for the Professorial Chair out of the four Universities and that it was the reason why they had to come to see the progress of work done so far.
Welcoming Dr Baah-Nuakoh and his team to the University, the Vice Chancellor, Prof J. S. Y. Kuma thanked them for the visit and indicated that UMaT had prepared very well to receive the cheque and that UMaT was very ready and will do everything possible to provide the best results for the tenets of the Professorial Chair. At this juncture, Prof Kuma presented a report on the progress of work for the quarter of the year. The report included among other things a Paper that had been published in a high impact Journal and some equipment and software that were being purchased including 10 business desktop and high capacity computers which according to Prof Kuma would fit into an incubator like Office to assist students with innovative ideas to work on their projects and also to help the University in general to do things differently. Prof Kuma assured the team of UMaT’s commitment to do a good job with the funds of the Professorial Chair.
Dr Baah-Nuakoh expressed happiness in the fact that the Chair was investing in high definition equipment and emphasised that the students would have a feeling of confidence and competence because they have been trained with the best materials in the University.

On the School of Petroleum Building Project, the Vice Chancellor indicated that the project was progressing steadily and informed them that the Contractor had promised that barring any unforeseen circumstances the project should be completed by August, 2019. He presented the next phase of the project which was made up of a list of equipment needed for setting up the Laboratories of the School at a cost of twelve million United States Dollars (12 Million USD).
Dr Baah-Nuakoh requested that the list of equipment be prioritised for the attention of the Foundation. He promised to speak to GNPC’s partners to consider the request for the purchase of equipment in their various Corporate Social Responsibility budgets. After the discussions Dr Baah-Nuakoh and his team paid a visit to the project site of the School of Petroleum Studies building to see at first hand the progress of work.
Present at the meeting were the Registrar, Mr A. K. Doku, the Dean of the Faculty of Mineral Resource Technology, Assoc Prof Grace Ofori-Sarpong, the Dean of the Faculty of Mineral Resources Technology, Dr Saviour Mantey, Head of Department of Petroleum Engineering and the University Relations Officer, Mr Paul Yeboah.
