SCHEDULE OF POSTGRADUATE SEMINARS FOR SECOND SEMESTER, 2013/2014 ACADEMIC YEAR
The scheduled dates for Postgraduate Seminars for the Second Semester of the 2013/2014 academic year are given in Table 1. All Postgraduate Students are to note the dates and inform the Secretary, School of Postgraduate Studies at least one week in advance of when they intend to present their Seminars.
Departments are now responsible for the organisation of Thesis Synopsis presentation. Dates for presentation of Thesis Synopsis should therefore be arranged with Departments.
Students must make the full payment for seminars before the proposed date can be confirmed by the Secretary, School of Postgraduate Studies. A maximum of FOUR Seminars can be presented per day and priority will be given on first come first served basis.

Students are reminded that they have to present their Seminars (at least ONE for MPhil/MSc students and at least TWO for PhD students) BEFORE they submit their Thesis to their respective Departments. Any student who has not done his/her Seminar will not be allowed to defend his/her Thesis.
The Graduate Programmes aim at providing a firm grounding in basic and advanced concepts and modern methods of mining engineering as well as offering a selection of special courses related to developing areas of the subject, particularly those areas of importance to Ghana.
Successful mining engineers from UMaT have the requisite qualities to plan, design and evolve satisfactory solutions to the complex issues associated with mining, operate the mines profitably in the face of the ever changing global economic and social problems as well as to ensure that the mines are operated in an environmentally friendly manner.
UMaT therefore runs strategically modelled graduate courses in Geological, Mining and Mineral Engineering.
DEGREES AND DIPLOMAS
All postgraduate programmes of study in the University may require course work together with research work, leading to the award of the following:
- Postgraduate Diploma (PgD)
- Master of Science (MSc)
- Master of Philosophy (MPhil)
- Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
Postgraduate Diploma programmes are offered by some Departments.
