Mr Daniel Boadi Pays Courtesy Call on Management of the University

The newly appointed Managing Director of AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Limited (AAIL), an alumnus of the University, Mr Daniel Boadi, has paid a courtesy call on management of the University of Mines and Technology. The visit, on Thursday, 18th September 2025, was to formally introduce himself and reaffirm AAIL’s commitment to its longstanding partnership with UMaT.

Mr Daniel Boadi lauded the University for its strong focus on quality teaching, practical learning, and effective student counselling, describing these as pillars that have shaped the lives and careers of many, including himself. He expressed deep appreciation to the University’s management and faculty for their continuous efforts in nurturing competent professionals for the mining and allied industries.

Mr Boadi revealed that AAIL has developed an industry-focused mentorship programme aimed at bridging the gap between academia and industry. The initiative will allow professionals from AAIL to engage students directly on the mine, offer guidance and address field-specific questions to enhance their practical understanding and career readiness.

He further congratulated Professor Richard K. Amankwah on his appointment as the Chairman of Vice Chancellor’s Ghana (VCG).

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Richard K. Amankwah, noted the strong partnership between the University and AAIL and acknowledged the company’s continuous support to the University, highlighting several impactful initiatives undertaken over the years such as the construction of a 12-unit classroom block at the University Basic School and establishment of the ANGITECH Laboratory for the University which provides technological support for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the University and the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality at large. He also lauded the annual LIMAP-AAIL mentorship programmes and internships for students of the University.

Professor Amankwah further revealed that discussions were underway on the development of a Smart Systems Centre to promote practical learning and innovation in artificial intelligence (AI) to serve as a major driver of digital transformation in the Municipality.

Professor Amankwah appealed to AAIL to extend its support toward the construction of a 40-bed Hospital for the University to serve both the University, catchment communities and the Municipality and emphasised the urgent need for improved healthcare facilities in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality.

Mr Daneil Boadi was accompanied by a team from the Sustainability Department of AAIL including Mr Stephen Adjei, Senior Manager, Mr Mensah Senyo Buake, Mr Richard Ansong, and Ms Afowah Akosua Arhin.
