"Assoc. Prof Eric Broni-Bediako - Dean, SPETSThe Ghana National Petroleum Cooperation (GNPC) School of Petroleum Studies (SPetS) was established in October, 2020 to provide firm training and research in the areas of Petroleum, Natural Gas and related Engineering and Management Sciences disciplines to reflect the sophisticated and fast-evolving technologies employed in the Petroleum value chain. The physical block for the School was built and commissioned under total funding of GNPC. However, it is worth noting that earlier, the Petroleum Engineering programme had commenced in 2009 as a department under Faculty of Mineral Resources Technology (FMRT). Indeed, the School forms an integral part of the strategic plan of the University and its fulfillment is a dream come true so far as the developmental agenda of the University is concerned. The current Dean is Assoc. Prof Eric Broni-Bediako.
The School currently hosts up to three (3) Academic Departments offering four-year BSc programmes in:
- Petroleum Engineering
- Natural Gas Engineering
- Petroleum Geosciences Engineering
- Petroleum Refining and Petrochemical Engineering
It also offers Postgraduate programme and four special certificate courses in Petroleum Engineering.
The total undergraduate enrolment of the School presently stands at 351 undergraduate students out of which eight (8) are international students. These international students originate from various countries in the sub-region including Cameroon, Cote D’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Nigeria and Siera Leone. The current postgraduate students are twenty four (24).
The School also has fifteen (15) diversified high level academic staff who apart from teaching, offer research and consultancy services into a wide range of industrial complex challenges and applications. They equip students with skills needed to create and apply innovative technologies in the petroleum and allied industries.
